Mather alumni met with Claflin University President Henry N. Tisdale (seated, second from left) in Fall 2013 to commemorate the establishment of the “Boylan Haven Mather Academy Alumni Memorial Scholarship” at Claflin. BHMA alumni and other supporters raised $22,970.89 during a two-year campaign. Surrounding President Tisdale are (seated, from left): Geneva Belton Williams ('40); BHMA National Alumni Association President Jeronell White Bradley ('65); Cora Jenkins, widow of Sylvester Jenkins ('49); and Edwina Williams ('67). Standing (from left): William Durant ('66), Henrietta Carter Pope ('45), Dr. Eloise Bishop ('65), Delmarcia Jenkins Mitchell ('75), and BHMA Alumni Treasurer Knorphe Byrd ('73). The campaign is ongoing.

That's why we voted in 2010 to establish a scholarship at Claflin, a prestigious academic institution of similar origins. The scholarship will serve as a "baton" to future generations from the young people who came through Mather's doors and went on to make this a better world.

We will preserve the vision of founder Sarah Babcock, and the spirit of Lula B. Bryan, Evelyn "Ma" Gittens, John Roy Harper Sr., Mary Dorn, Thelma Walker, Barbara Boultinghouse and many others who believed education is an indispensable avenue to achievement for African Americans.
Give To Perpetuate Mather's Legacy of Education!
A "Boylan-Haven Mather Academy Alumni Memorial Scholarship" at Claflin will help eligible Education majors afford to pursue their years of study.
Let's increase that endowment so the greatest amount of funds can be generated for the greatest number of recipients!
The larger the endowment, the more students we help. All amounts appreciated!
